NorthEnd Halifax
Logo Contest
This project was a voting-based contest to represent the 'North End' neighbourhood of Halifax, Nova Scotia. This work refers to the abundant art scene of the North End and represents street poles laden with years of local art and event posters.
When I won the North End design contest, I felt invigorated that the design had more potential than its application on a tote. The heart was instantly iconic - never just a heart.
It's squared, jagged edges (that I've cut out thousands of times) have an identity. I saw the heart as a symbol that the neighbourhood could identify with, so I created a movement that lends beauty to an area saturated with art and texture.

One day, when everything is right angles and plastic facades... we'll miss the grit and imperfection.
I aim the heart right at those scenes where it has a decorative, symbolic nature akin to a social media 'like'.
Nobody asked... but everybody cares.
Now, the heart has an underground following of people finding them around town.
